Brought up on a large mixed farm near Newmarket, Suffolk, David
Pullen spent his childhood working at every opportunity on the farm.
His
grandfather was a blacksmith who for a time was also on the staff
at Chadacre Agricultural Institute, Suffolk.
After studying agricultural engineering at the National College of
Agricultural Engineering, Silsoe, David spent an enjoyable time working
for the VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) in The Gambia, West Africa,
developing and evaluating animal-powered equipment. He had a period
lecturing in agricultural engineering in Lincolnshire and then undertook
a doctorate at Cranfield University, Silsoe, looking at high speed
inter-row mechanical weeding. Dr Pullen has since worked at the University
on various research and development projects. He currently holds
the position of Senior Research Officer.
David’s interest in collecting model tractors, particularly
those produced by Britains, has been a lifetime hobby begun in childhood.
