In order to help dairy farmers treat and prevent cattle footcare problems this video combines a detailed study of the anatomy of the hoof with practical foot-trimming.
Using laboratory specimens Roger Blowey first discusses the structure of the foot, the effects of hoof overgrowth and how this contributes to cow discomfort and ailments such as sole ulcers. Having thoroughly related the theory of trimming to hoof anatomy, Roger then goes on to the farm to demonstrate hoof-trimming to a young farmer, Christine Freeman. Finally, Christine tackles her first foot.
