Gertjan Houtman was born in Holland in 1954.

In 1985 he started making documentary programmes in association with the Dutch trucking magazine Truckstar. Among the memorable films that resulted were Alaska Highway and Heavy Transport. Gertjan worked freelance for the Mammoet corporation which famously raised London’s Millennium Wheel as well as the Kursk submarine. In collaboration with Mammoet he produced several more programmes on heavy and specialised transport.

Gertjan continues to make programmes, work as a magazine journalist and spend time on his classic boat.
