This is the story of the Second World War effort on the land, told through archive and contemporary film. It pays tribute not just to farmers but also to the Women’s Land Army and the War Ags and shows how the countryside responded to the threat of blockade.
First-hand accounts, together with outstanding archive footage, create an informative and entertaining view of the rural community in its finest hour.
The programme is scripted with the aid of technical consultant Brian Bell and narrated by ‘Dad’s Army’ star Ian Lavender. Much of the archive film was supplied by Richard Watts at the British Agricultural Archive Film Unit.
