A Hampshire boy who grew up in the farming community of Hartley
Wespall, Peter Tye joined the Royal Navy as a boy seaman. On leaving
the navy he pursued a marketing career with Mars, Smith & Nephew,
Oxo, Ferrero and BP. In 1977 Peter was in Fleet Street offering a
business writing service to blue chip companies in the City of London.
Peter’s involvement with children’s entertainment began
in 1993 when he started to write, among other things, the Little
Red Tractor stories for TV, video and books. Prior to the BBC commissioning
26 episodes for a new series, over 300,000 videos of the Little Red
Tractor titles had been sold.
Peter Tye lives in Norfolk where he is an enthusiastic supporter of his local
cricket team.
