Roger Smith was born in Plumpton Green, Sussex and brought up in Middlesex. Roger attended Bishopshalt Grammar School and Wadham College, Oxford. After graduating in philosophy, politics and economics and working at a wide range of casual jobs, he became a book editor and publisher’s reader in London and Yorkshire. Roger joined the Suffolk-based Farming Press as Book Publishing Manager in 1979, establishing the Farming Press video unit in 1991. In 1998 he left and set up Old Pond Publishing.
Roger and his wife Lesley met in Yorkshire where they both served on the 1977 Jubilee Festival committee that revived the Wakefield Mystery Plays. They live in Ipswich, Suffolk.
