In the glory days of threshing the equipment travelled from farm to farm with steam traction engine or tractor. This video shows the development of threshing techniques from the flail to the combine, and in particular the threshing machine.
The programme explains clearly the technology of the thresher and shows drums working with portable engines, traction engines and tractors. Retired farm workers recall the skills and hard work of the threshing gangs. The programme is presented by Chris Opperman. .
