Neil Paton grew up in Scotland going to School and University there, and gained a BSc in Veterinary Pathology in 1997. After this he graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 1999. 

Immediately after graduating he worked in the North east of Scotland for 3 years as a mixed practice vet but with an interest in the Beef and sheep Veterinary practice.

Neil left practice to complete a PhD examining the interaction of E. coli O157:H7 with the bovine rectal epithelium at the University of Edinburgh and at the Moredun research institute.

Areas of practice that his career has encompassed include farm, small animal and emergency as well as lecturing to Veterinary Students and Clients. He has worked with animals all over the UK and in Australia and Asia in a variety of situations and roles.

Neil's current position is to run the Welsh Regional Veterinary Centre where the students of the Royal Veterinary College gain experience in abattoir work and Public health as well as population health.

He live in Wales with his wife and three children on a smallholding with sheep and chickens, and teaches Karate at the local town Shotokan Club.
