Dick Vet News Review by Dick Vet News
'The book contains beautiful pictures from Neville's own huge library and the subjects cover life as a rural vet... It is a unique concept celebrating in pictures Neville's passions for his working life, the countryside, natural history, dales heritage, music-making, and photography and may be attractive to those with an interest in animals and birds, botanists, farmers, photographers, and all those who care for our rural heritage.' - Dick Vet News (Posted on 23/11/2017)
Review by Living North Review by Living North Review
'The Yorkshire Dales veterinary autobiography is a well-ploughed furrow, but Neville Turner’s book The Dales Vet: A Working Life in Pictures is a little different. Combining his smart observations of the Dales from the three decades he worked as a vet with stunning photography (Neville’s work has previously been used in advertising campaigns for The Famous Grouse Scotch whisky), The Dales Vet shines a light on the constantly changing world of the countryside. Part memoir, part wiselyobserved insights into country life, it’s an ideal coffee table book, full of bright and insightful photography.' - Living North

The Dales Vet Review in Horse Magazine Review by Dales Vet
Vet Neville Turner says he set out to paint a picture of the joy of being a rural vet in a special landscape, and he has achieved just that in this lovely book... As well as sharing anecdotes from his career, he celebrates the beauty of his local area, illustrated by stunning photographs of wildlife, scenery and farm and domestic animals. - Horse Magazine (Posted on 21/07/2017)

Interview Review by Telegraph Magazine
"For over 20 years, I worked 18 hours a day, six days a week. I wasn’t an investment banker but the local vet of Barnard Castle, a market town in the Yorkshire Dales. It wasn’t just a job but a way of life, and I loved every day of it until I retired in 2000.
At times it was emotionally harrowing, especially when I had to put pets to sleep, but I always knew I was doing what was best for them, and looking back, there’s nothing I’d rather have done for a career. I still wonder how I’ve crammed so many wonderful experiences into one life."

A wonderful book Review by Northern Horse magazine
If you love the countryside and the country way of life this book is for you. Written by Neville Turner who has spent many years in rural veterinary practice working on the eastern slopes of the Pennines. His professional life gave him the opportunity to establish an intimacy with the Dales over the seasons. During this time he travelled over a million miles in the Dales with a camera by his side and this book features many of his own photographs of life as a rural vet. It also includes some wonderful views of the countryside, farm animals, hill farmers, and celebrates in wonderful glory all that makes the Dales special.
A wonderful book to give as a Christmas gift, one that will suit all, sectioned in to many different chapters and short stories such as The Agricultural Show, Lambing Time, Horse Power and Heritage, By Hook or by Crook and many more all accompanied by wonderful photographs. (Posted on 19/05/2017)
A captivating story Review by Polly Pullar, People’s Friend
Neville is a man of many talents. His reputation as one of the true vets of the old school is legendary
Travelling around the Durham Dales throughout the seasons in the course of his work has culminated in a unique photographic record of this wild part of Northern England, as well as a wealth of material for features, and several books. His latest, The Dales Vet – A Working Life in Pictures, has been 30 years in the making, and is a wonderful celebration of a life well spent, an enchanting and moving record that is entertaining, humorous, poignant, and informative in equal measure.
Many of Neville’s stories and his boundless generosity, bring a lump to the throat. His concern for not only his patients, but also their oft-distraught owners, further reveals that to this sensitive soul there was far more to being a vet.
Dales Vet, is captivating. It is so much more than the life of a vet and embraces the deep spirit of the community with its highs and lows, carnivals, village fetes and livestock shows.
