Farm Office Handbook - edition 2 Review by Wyn Morgan
Many things have changed within the agricultural industry since I reviewed the first edition of the Farm Office Handbook, we've seen indifferent arable prices up until recently, dairy returns fall dramatically for most milk producers with the prices only slowly recovering now and the financial pressures continue for the beef and sheep industry, through all of this one message stands out - those farmers who approach their farming as business managers will be more likely to succeed. Under pinning this attitude must be an understanding of what goes on in the farm office, and this is where this book has an important part to play.

The areas revised in edition 2 bring the book up to date with several recent changes - Basic Payment Scheme, changes in employment following the demise of the Agricultural Wages Board etc. With the reduction in DEFRA funding resulting in information either being transferred to other organisations or frequently no longer made available, a single source of information must be a welcome addition to anyone's bookshelf.

Whether the reader is an agricultural student seeking to understand the basic operations of the farm office or a farmer seeking to fine tune his management information this book must be one of the 'go to' publications.

An encyclopaedia of essential knowledge for every farm office Review by Sir Don Curry
This Farm Office Handbook is an encyclopaedia of essential knowledge for every farm office. As I turned the pages and read the contents it reminded me afresh of how complex our farm businesses have become! It is almost impossible now to commit to memory all the relevant dates, obligations, reporting requirements and standards that apply to, what often looks like, a fairly straightforward family business.
Having this hand book on the desk, as an up to date reference, could be invaluable because, as we all know, timeliness is critical and simple mistakes can be very costly! I commend it to you! (Posted on 22/02/2017)
