Big on content and visual impact. ‘Magnificent’ is a word I use rarely when reviewing a tome, but Beyond the Bosphorus is a must for anyone connected to or interested in this golden era of British road transport. Well, I've just read this book from cover to cover and it really is an impressive tome! This is a sort of coffee-table sequel to Cola Cowboys with colour pictures and WAY more integrity. The choice and quality of contributors makes all the difference. It is a fantastic book and David Bowers is to be congratulated for taking on such a mammoth task and for presenting it all so well. I think that this is a terrific book if only I could get my hands on it, having received it on Wednesday I had a quick glance through and was most impressed I then put it down with a view to getting stuck into it later BUT my dear wife took command of it and having done a Baghdad or two with me during my M/E exploits that was it - been there - know him - know this truck and that truck - so when she surfaces for air I shall make a grab for the book. My copy of Beyond The Bosphorous has arrived and I am digging into it’s pages with gusto. It really brings back a load of memories, like fixing a truck with bits of old baked bean can, and getting stuck in the snow/ sand/mud/ jail! Beyond the Bosphorus is magnificent! A straightforward account of what we did. In the way that Ashley Coghill's 'The Long Haul Pioneers' is the definitive account of the Astran company, so will this book become the definitive account for all the rest of us. (Posted on 18/08/2015)Rating
