Details

Norfolk’s Strumpshaw steam museum is the venue for a rally held in wooded parkland each spring. Visitors to the 1999 event had the opportunity to see some thirty engines in steam, representing a wide cross-section of makes and types.

Highlights of this video include firing up a unique Savage engine, driving lessons on both a Fowler traction engine and a Foden steam wagon, and an insight into an engine driver’s life – at least, cooking his breakfast. Work with saws and a stone crusher, the parade of steam engines and scale models, as well as three types of pumping engine operating in the museum are also included.

Chris Opperman’s commentary, scripted by Brian Bell, gives clear information about the machines, and the programme has been professionally filmed and edited by Jonathan Theobald at Country Films.
